Alan’s Experience Following His Cyberknife Treatment
We returned to the UK 2 days after Alan received his 3rd and final Cyberknife treatment. Alan was still pain-free - a miracle! Even within 2 days of completing his treatment Alan’s appetite had improved. It was so fantastic to see him finally eating a meal.
Gradually over the months following Alan’s Cyberknife treatment, his health has continued to go from strength to strength. His appetite has improved and he was soon eating ‘normal’ meals. From eating tiny child-like portions before his treatment to eating normal adult-size portions was such a welcome sight.
It is now 11 months since Alan had his Cyberknife treatment and his health has continued to improve. We have had times when Alan has had spells of reduced appetite and episodes of diarrhoea and straightaway Alan is concerned. Has the cancer spread? Has the tumour got bigger? Has the Cyberknife not worked? But these times have been transient and short-lived. It’s so easy to start panicking but I have to continue to be the positive force behind Alan and reassure him.
Eleven months ago, Alan could barely walk from his bed to the sofa downstairs. His days were occupied with counting the hours down until his next dose of Morphine. What a difference 11 months make! Last week we walked half way up Scarfell Pike in the Lake District, of which Alan did most of the way with our 3 year old son on his back. We could never have imagined this 11 months ago.
