Alan’s 1st CT Scan Post Cyberknife Treatment

Alan decided to wait until he reached the 6 month mark before he had his 1st CT scan. Thankfully we did not have to return to Georgetown for the scan, Alan’s UK consultant was happy to arrange a CT scan for him at the hospital in Manchester. Although Alan’s doctor in America had said he could possibly have a CT scan at the 3 month mark, we were likely to see more change in the appearance of the tumour after 6 months.

It was a very nerve-racking few days awaiting the results of the scan. What if the Cyberknife hadn’t worked? What if the tumour had grown? It was a very anxious time. However, comparing how Alan was to how he was 8 months ago, the Cyberknife had to have done something.

Thankfully, the scan showed Alan’s tumour had not grown in 6 months. As mentioned earlier on this web site, measurements of his tumour did show a 2mm increase – routine measurement variation, as it is commonly known. We were thrilled. The CT scan, however, could only show us changes in the size of the tumour. It could not show us if the cancer cells were dying off. A PET/CT scan is necessary to provide this information.

Alan will have his next CT scan in August 2008 - the 1st anniversary of his Cyberknife treatment.
