We have only just discovered this vital piece of information but it has been in the news since January 2009. From April 1st 2009, all cancer patients will be entitled to exemption from NHS prescription charges. I wish this had been current throughout the whole of Alan’s illness; I think we could have gone on a round-the-world cruise with the amount of money we have spent over the last 9 years on prescription medicines!
Exemption certificates will be issued to those, in their doctor’s judgement are receiving treatment for:
- Cancer
- The effects of cancer or
- The effects of current or previous cancer treatment
To apply for an exemption certificate, you will need to complete an FP92A form. These can be obtained from either your GP or NHS Trust Oncology department. The certificates are valid for 5 years and will be renewable for patients still receiving treatment for cancer or the effects of cancer treatment.
