Cyberknife Goes To Parliament

< Back to news items

On Wednesday 2nd December, our campaign to get CyberKnife on the NHS will be making its way to Parliament.

Alan and I, along with the makers of the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery system, have been asked to address the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Medical Technology on how CyberKnife can help save the lives of cancer sufferers in the UK. The meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the current obstacles in the promotion of this technology on the NHS.

The CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System is the world’s first and only robotic radiosurgery system designed to treat tumours with sub-millimetre accuracy. It is a non-invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of both malignant and benign tumours anywhere in the body, and as Alan is living testament, CyberKnife uniquely offers thousands of cancer patients a treatment pathway previously denied to them.

We are hoping to contact as many MP’s as possible to notify them of this meeting, so that they may attend and support us. This is where you can help us. Please can you forward the attached letter to your MP. If you do not have time to write to your MP, it is possible to e-mail them directly. I have listed a website below so that you can access the e-mail address for your MP.

We’re hoping that if MPs receive letters from their constituents urging them to attend the APPG meeting, we will get a better turnout.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Medical Technology has a track record of lively and informative debate, which has gone on to be used in shaping Government policy, but in order for us to achieve the greatest impact we need your support.

If you would like to be involved in this important event, please email me at sbct.secretary@googlemail.com and we can discuss how best you can help.

The meeting will be held at the House of Commons, Committee Room 7 on Wednesday 2nd December 2- 3.30pm

MP LETTER

Dear MP,

Re: Radiosurgery - Revolutionising cancer treatment. Wednesday 2nd December, 2pm-3.30pm, Committee Room 7, House of Commons

I am writing as one of your constituents, to request that you attend the above named meeting, hosted by the APPG on Medical Technology. The meeting will address key issues regarding the future of radiosurgery in the treatment of cancer, particularly for those patients suffering from cancer in the lung, prostate, pancreas and brain.

The makers of the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery system have been asked to address the Group to talk about how radiosurgery can help save the lives of cancer sufferers in the UK and will provide an opportunity to discuss the current obstacles in the promotion of this technology on the NHS.

You may know the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System is the world’s first and only robotic radiosurgery system designed to treat tumours with sub-millimeter accuracy. It is a non-invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of both malignant and benign tumours anywhere in the body.

Radiosurgery will revolutionize the way many cancer sufferers are treated and will offer thousands of cancer patients a treatment pathway currently denied to them. Therefore, as my elected representative, I would be most grateful if you could attend this meeting and support any future technological advancement for cancer treatment.

I look forward to hearing from you as to whether you can attend.
